Students and teachers at NHVPS Unit 1 celebrated the International Yoga Day on June 21 with a pledge to make Yoga an essential part of their daily fitness regime. This year the theme is ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or ‘Yoga for the Welfare of All as One World-One Family.’ The campus reverberated with the chants of Om as the entire school got together for a mega yoga session. Seeking the power to calm their minds and bodies, the participants carried out a combination of asanas , breathing exercises and meditation and experienced how yoga combined the physical, mental and spiritual elements. The students showcased their flexibility, physical and mental strength as they demonstrated challenging yoga poses like Bhujangasana (The Cobra Pose) Dhanurasana (The Bow Pose) Chakrasana (The Wheel Pose).
As the day coincided with the World Music Day, an enthralling jugalbandi session of Western classic and Carnatic classic was presented by the Music department of the school at the end of the programme. All in all, it was a day to learn how to heal the body and mind with yoga and music.
